Using access keys, and changing the appearance of your web browser.


Access keys

Access keys allow you to use your keyboard to go to core pages on the website. If you're using a PC, press and hold Alt and the relevant number, followed by enter. If you're using a Mac, press and hold Ctrl and the relevant number, followed by enter.

Access keys may not work on some web browsers. You may not have to press enter or hold down enter on some browsers.

Changing the background and text colour

Click on the 'tools' menu, then 'internet options' menu, then the 'accessibility' button (in the 'general' tab). Tick 'ignore colours specified on web pages', then click 'OK'. Click 'colors', then untick 'use windows colors'. Select the text and background colours you want, then click 'OK', and 'OK' again to close the options screen.

Changing the font size

In Internet Explorer:
Click 'view' menu, then click on 'text size' and select the text size you would like.

In Firefox:
Click the 'view' menu, then click 'text size', then click 'increase' or 'decrease' until the text size is how you want it.

Changing the font style

In Internet Explorer:
Click the 'tools' menu, then 'internet options', then the 'accessibility button' (in the 'general' tab). Tick 'ignore font styles specified on web pages', then click 'OK'. Click 'fonts', select the font you want to use and click 'OK', then 'OK' again to close the options screen.

In Firefox:
Select the 'tools' menu, then click 'options', then click 'fonts & colors'. Choose the font you want to use, and tick 'always use my fonts' check box, then click 'OK'.
